Providing access to sanitary pads at the doorstep.
Myna Mahila Foundation
Empowering women to speak about issues they are most afraid to discuss aloud, like the chatty Myna bird.
We employ women from urban slums in Mumbai to manufacture and sell affordable sanitary pads back into their communities, improving menstrual hygiene, providing stable employment, and building a trusted network.
Menstruation challenges in India
Women face challenges accessing sanitary pads: male-run medical stores, unaffordable costs and stigma and shame associated with menstruation.
We employ. We improve menstrual hygiene. We build women’s networks.
The Myna Mahila Foundation Model
We employ local women to manufacture sanitary pads and sell them door to door in Mumbai’s slums.
Where we work
We reach over 10,000 women a month in the following slum and slum redeveloped areas in Mumbai.
Natwar Parekh Compound
Govandi slums
Indian Oil
Lallubhai compounds
Vashi Naka
Goregaon
Mankhurd
Kokriagar
Kurla
Dharavi
Chembur
Borivali
By the end of 2018, we want to reach more than 25,000 women per month.
